IPTV setup guides for every device
By the IPTV Gold editorial team · How we write and test
Quick answer Last updated:
To set up IPTV, install a player app on your device, then sign in with the login we send: an Xtream Codes server URL, username and password, an M3U playlist link, or a MAG portal URL. Most devices take about 5 minutes. Pick your device below for exact steps, menu paths and fixes.
Choose your device
Seven guides cover nearly every screen in a Canadian home. Each one lists the app to install, the exact menu path, the settings that keep playback smooth and a table of fixes for the errors people actually run into. Tap your device to open its guide.
-
Smart TVs
Samsung (Tizen), LG (webOS), Sony, TCL, Hisense
Apps: IBO Player, Smart IPTV, built-in Google TV apps
-
Android & TV boxes
Phones, tablets, Formuler, BuzzTV, NVIDIA Shield
Apps: TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro, XCIPTV
Not sure what you’ve got? Look at the remote. An Amazon logo or a blue Alexa voice button means a Fire TV device. A Samsung or LG logo with no separate box means the apps run on the TV itself. If the box under your TV says Infomir or MAG, it’s a MAG box and it doesn’t need an app at all.
The three login types, and which apps use them
Every IPTV player connects to the service in one of three ways. When your account is activated, you receive all the details you could need, so this table is mostly about knowing which part of the message to copy into which app.
| Login type | What we send you | Apps and devices that use it | Why pick it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xtream Codes | A server URL, a username and a password | IPTV Smarters Pro, TiviMate, XCIPTV, IPTVX, GSE Smart IPTV, MYTVOnline 3 on Formuler | Live channels, movies, series and the program guide arrive together, and new channels show up without retyping anything |
| M3U playlist URL | One long link with your credentials built in, plus a separate XMLTV link for the guide | VLC, Kodi with PVR IPTV Simple Client, MyIPTV Player, IBO Player, SS IPTV, Smart IPTV, SET IPTV | Accepted by nearly every player ever made, including smart TV apps that have no Xtream option |
| MAG portal | A portal URL, after you send us the box’s MAC address | MAG 322, 324, 424 and 524 boxes, and Formuler boxes in portal mode | Nothing to install. The menus, guide and on-demand sections are built into the portal itself |
A quick rule: if the app has a button that says Xtream Codes, Xtream API or "login with username", use it. It’s the least typing and the most features. Fall back to the M3U link only for players that don’t offer Xtream, and keep that link private, since anyone who has it can use your account.
Before you start: a four-point checklist
Five minutes of setup goes faster when these four things are sorted first.
- Your login from us. Request the trial or finish an order, then keep the message open on your phone. Server URLs are fussy: one wrong letter or a missing port number and the app reports a failed login.
- Access to your device’s app store. That means an Amazon account on a Firestick, a Google account on Android and Google TV, an Apple Account on iPhone and Apple TV, or a Samsung or LG account on some smart TVs. Have the password handy before you begin.
- Enough internet speed for the quality you want. Run a speed test on the device itself, not on your phone in another room. The numbers below are per screen, so two TVs streaming 4K need about double.
- A plan for Ethernet versus Wi-Fi. A cable from the router is the single best fix for buffering. Where a cable isn’t practical, put the device on your router’s 5 GHz band and keep it out of a closed cabinet.
| Picture quality | Recommended speed per screen | Where you’ll see it |
|---|---|---|
| SD | About 3 Mbps | Fine on older Wi-Fi or a weak signal |
| HD (720p) | About 5 Mbps | Most news and talk channels |
| Full HD (1080p) | About 10 Mbps | The default version of most channels |
| 4K (2160p) | About 25 Mbps | Needs a 4K-capable device and TV |
Most fibre and cable internet plans sold by Bell, Rogers, Telus, Vidéotron, Cogeco and TekSavvy clear these numbers with room to spare. Trouble usually comes from the last few metres of Wi-Fi rather than the line into your home.
Universal 4-step setup
The details change from device to device, but the shape of the job never does. If your device isn’t in the list above, these four steps will still get you watching.
-
Step 1: Get your login
Ask for the 24-hour free trial or choose a plan. We send your details by email or Live Chat, usually within 10 to 30 minutes. MAG owners send us their MAC address first.
-
Step 2: Install a player app
Use the app named in your device’s guide: TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro on Firestick and Android, IBO Player on most Samsung and LG sets, an App Store player on Apple devices. MAG boxes skip this step.
-
Step 3: Enter your details
Pick the Xtream Codes option if the app has one and type the server URL, username and password exactly as written. Otherwise paste the M3U link, or the portal URL on a MAG box.
-
Step 4: Let the guide load and test
The first load takes a minute or two while channels, on-demand titles and the program guide download. Try one Canadian channel, one sports channel and one 4K channel before you settle in.
Best app by device in 2026
These are the players we point customers to first, based on how they handle a large lineup, how readable the program guide is and how often the developer updates them. App stores change, so each guide also lists backups.

Device not listed?
Roku players and game consoles have very limited IPTV app choice, and what exists comes and goes. The simplest answer is a Fire TV Stick or a Google TV Streamer plugged into a spare HDMI port. It’s a one-time purchase that costs less than a couple of months of a typical cable bill, and it runs the best-supported players. Projectors and older TVs without apps work the same way.
If you’re still choosing a service, our IPTV Canada service overview explains what’s in the lineup, and the channel list by category shows the Canadian, French-language and 4K groups before you install anything.
Frequently asked questions
Which login type should I ask for?
You don’t have to choose. Every account comes with Xtream Codes details and an M3U link, and MAG owners get a portal URL once their MAC address is registered. Use Xtream Codes whenever your app offers it, because it brings in the guide and on-demand sections automatically.
Can I install the app on more than one device?
Yes, you can sign in on a Firestick, a phone and a tablet with the same details. How many can play at the same moment depends on your plan: 1, 2 or 3 devices. If your household watches on several TVs at once, pick that number on the pricing page.
Do I need a VPN to set up IPTV?
No. None of our guides require one, and the service works on every major Canadian internet provider without extra software. Some people use a VPN for general privacy, which is their choice, but it isn’t part of the setup and can slow streams down if the VPN server is far away.
What if I get stuck halfway through a guide?
Message us. Support runs 24/7 in English and French, and we can walk you through any step on any device, including reading back your login character by character. Most problems turn out to be a typo in the server URL or a missing http:// at the start.
